Description

Will pursuing Sadie’s dreams mean leaving a romance behind?

Sadie Kuhns has a lot happening in her life. She is creating a unique quilt by blending a traditional Amish pattern with a Hawaiian pattern as a tribute to her time spent in the islands, and she is working on a self-published book. But her relationship with Wyman Kauffman has stagnated after six months of courtship. He can’t seem to commit to a profession that would secure a future, and he is jealous of the time Sadie gives to her own pursuits. Is there really any reason to drag this courtship out? Only time will tell in this new novel from New York Times bestselling author Wanda E. Brunstetter, writing with her daughter-in-law Jean Brunstetter.

    Simple things in the life..

Published by martaA on Jan 27, 2022

Middlebury, Indiana. Sadie Kuhn is part of a large family: parents, 2 brothers, 2 sisters. She works in a hardware store in Shipshewana, she likes quilting, she is courted by Wyman, an irresponsible, untrusting man. Sometimes material things let us forget the very important things in life, such as family, God. As always the authors teach us something about Plain life and about all how to enjoy simple things and how important are the love of family and friend.

    The Perfect Blend!

Published by Staci Kinman on Jan 31, 2021

What a great wrap-up to the Hawaiian series! Although this is #3 in the lineup, reading the first 2 is not essential to understanding this story. I loved getting a better glimpse into the life of Sadie. This dynamic main character definitely had some unique life circumstances -- her path didn't follow the 'normal' way of life for many young Amish women, and it was a refreshing change of pace! I loved seeing Sadie set goals and achieve them, while navigating her relationships simultaneously. The story also goes back and lets the readers know how the previous main characters in the other Hawaiian series books are doing. If you like to read with a friend or a book club, discussion questions are included in the back. I will definitely pick this series back up and re-read them all! This book was provided to me by Barbour Publishing. I was not required to leave a positive (or any) review. Opinions and ideas expressed in this review are my own.

The Blended Quilt by Wanda E. Brunstetter & Jean Brunstetter

Published by Connie Porter Saunders on Jan 03, 2021

This book has several themes that are unusual in Amish fiction. Sadie Kuhns is a young Amish woman who took a cruise to the Hawaiian Islands with her Amish friends and Wyman Kaufmann is her easily bored boyfriend who doesn't keep a job very long. Yes, these seem foreign to the hardworking Amish culture that we're familiar with, but authors Wanda E. Brunstetter and Jean Brunstetter make them work in this entertaining story that shows the conflicts they both face. Sadie would like to write a book and it appears that she can pursue this goal when her aunt leaves her a substantial amount of money. Will this inheritance and her ambition drive Wyman away? Are her dreams of being a wife and mother completely destroyed? It becomes obvious that Sadie and Wyman are both guilty of allowing worldly influences to affect their relationships with each other and with God. They appear to have forgotten the simple life that is the backbone of Amish culture. Will they learn to once again be content with the simple things of life? The Blended Quilt is an intriguing story that shows the importance of faith, family, and friends, while subtly reminding us that following God's direction is the key to happiness and contentment. I received a copy of this book from the authors. A favorable review wasn't required and no monetary compensation was given. These are my own thoughts.
