Description

The King James Version of the Bible has stood the test of time.

Now it’s catching up with the times.

The Barbour Simplified KJV builds off the familiarity and trustworthiness of the King James Bible while removing the difficulties of antiquated language and punctuation.
Keeping all the original translation work of the 1611 Bible, this version carefully updates old styles that may interfere with your understanding today:

  • outdated verb styles are refreshed—for example, art becomes are; gavest becomes gave
  • old forms of address—like thee, thou, and ye—are updated
  • confusing older terms—such as wroth or divers—are modernized
  • pronouns for God—He, His, Him, You, Yours, Me, My—are capitalized for clarity
  • quotation marks are included with spoken language
  • long sentences are shortened with modern punctuation
  • paragraphs are added throughout

The Barbour Simplified KJV maintains the feel of the original King James while noticeably increasing its readability, bringing the trustworthy old translation into the 21st century.
And now it’s available in easy-on-the-eyes large print with thumb indexing!

    Outstanding Job!

Published by Stephen Gaffney on Mar 19, 2025

This large print edition is outstanding for the price! The paper is much better than the previous smaller print edition and it even appears to be line matched. I am very pleased with this edition and am thankful for the time the publisher put into this edition.

A great start in the right direction

Published by Anthony L on Mar 09, 2025

I was on a laymen’s review team with 11 others for an update of the MEV (Modern English Version) Bible, which just came out in November 2024. It sadly missed the mark in several areas and was not always faithful to the underlying text; especially in the New Testament. However, the SKJV (specifically the large print with slightly updated text) has accomplished what the MEV could not, and has brought a truly simpler update of the KJV without the mess. Also, this specific edition of the SKJV ,compared to the first edition SKJV, has: -much better paper -better print -typos fixed *Conclusion: This is a great step in the right direction. In the future, I would love to see a wider range of products to include: 1. Thin-lines, personal-size large prints, Reader’s editions, KJV/SKJV parallels 2. Study edition that contains translation notes, cross-references (such as KJV’s which are public domain), and maybe even keyed to Strong’s References 3. Editions with Apocrypha (the World English Bible has an apocrypha that is royalty free and could be “sandwiched” in the middle of the testaments). This will open the market to Protestants, Orthodox, and Catholics. All of these use the apocrypha and KJV to extent.
