Description

Barbara Breaks from Amish Tradition to Express Her Artistry

Full of faith, hope, and romance, this new series takes you into the Heart of Amish country.

Barbara Schwartz was born into a family of quilters, but she would rather eat dirt than partake in another quilting frolic or sew on another binding. When her parents send her to Indiana to help her grandmother in her quilting shop, she finds herself amongst a very different community. It’s only one summer and then she will be back in Kentucky where she belongs.

Melvin Bontrager’s world stopped six years ago when his parents died. Now when his only means of providing for his widowed sister and niece is threatened, Melvin finds his landscaping business disappearing too. When spring delivers a newcomer who is immune to his salty moods, Melvin does something he has never done before, accepts help.

What blooms is the last thing Barbara ever expected, and everything Melvin could ever want.

Square Peg in a Round Hole

Published by dali castillo on Nov 25, 2024

Have you ever tried putting a square peg into a round hole? It's not going to happen, and yet that is exactly what Barbara Schwartz's family was trying to do to her. But no matter how hard she tried, Barbara was not cut out to be a quilter. Now if you talk to her about gardening and flowers, she is top notch, which is, much to his surprise, exactly what Melvin Bontrager is about to find out. I loved Barbara and Melvin's story. Mindy Steele has a way of flawlessly putting two unlikely characters together in a way that you would never imagine, and it always works. Yes, there are ups and downs, but that is the best part of the journey. She also adds real places and describes them is such a way that you feel like you are right there seeing it up close and personal. And if that's not enough, she adds some great secondary characters that add much to the story. The entire combination will keep you smiling and glued to the pages up to the very end. It's just that good. Book Quotes: One cannot know another's day without walking in his shadow. He might not understand Gott's plan for his life, but he believed in his heart that trusting Him was imperative. I was provided with an advanced copy of this book. All comments and opinions are voluntary and completely my own.

    All-Emotions-Engaged Story!

    Published by @DevotedToHope on Sep 19, 2023

I highly recommend this Christian romance novel as it completely delivers, as promised, a glorious story full of faith, hope, tender romance, and love! The two main characters, Barbara and Melvin, are well-developed, realistically flawed, and oh so lovable. The author perfectly developed the storyline, kept this reader entertained and turning the pages, and left this completely enchanted to the end. The faith content which includes Scripture and prayers, blooms with genuineness. With God at the center of it all, family, friendships, and love are wonderfully cultivated and exquisitely cherished. May I always be mindful that every good and perfect gift comes from above (James 1:17). Here is one of a multitude of engaging quotes I highlighted: “For as long as she could remember, Barbara had focused more on doing things she didn’t particularly like instead of what stirred her heart. With time untethered and no one about to question her wandering, she let herself ponder as she strolled along. She inhaled the sweet fragrances and drank her fill in this connection with God and nature. A person could learn much from nature. One could either be part of the garden, or they could forge out another path and create their own garden.” I hope to read all of Mindy Steele’s books based on how well I loved the writing style of this happily-ever-after, all-emotions-engaged story! I am so thankful that via NetGalley and Barbour Publishing approved my request to view a complimentary eARC of The Flower Quilter by Mindy Steele. It is such an enjoyable read! All opinions contained in this review are my own and authentic. I am not required to write a positive review.

    Fantastic Amish Fiction!

Published by Connie Porter Saunders on Sep 01, 2023

Barbara Schwartz comes from a family of accomplished quilters, but she absolutely hates to quilt! Why should she sit in a hot, stuffy room when she could be outside working in her flowers and garden? Barbara knows that "next to God, family always comes first" so she reluctantly travels to Shipshewana, Indiana to help her grandparents. Will this time in her grandmother's quilt shop change her mind about quilting, or will Barbara discover a new purpose while she's away? What awaits her in this place that is so different from her own small Kentucky community? The Flower Quilter is the delightful story of a friendship that develops because of a mutual love for being outdoors in nature. Author Mindy Steele poignantly conveys Barbara and Melvin's joy in their blossoming friendship and their reluctance to allow it to become more. I enjoyed the humor, and I was swept away by the innocent flirtation that hints at what's to come! Grab a copy and prepare to lose yourself in this touching story of acceptance, forgiveness, and trust. You may also find yourself planning a road trip to see the beautiful Indiana Quilt Gardens for yourself! I received a complimentary copy of this book. There was no obligation for a favorable review. These are my own thoughts.

    Quilting Meduims

Published by Sally Mander on Aug 12, 2023

5 stars, Quilting Mediums THE FLOWER QUILTER (HEART OF THE AMISH SERIES) by Mindy Steele Every family has that one member who rebels against everything. Barbara Schwartz feels like she can't be who she is meant to be, in her family of quilters. She'd much rather be working all day in the garden than be stuck inside, sticking her fingers with a needle. Melvin Bontrager is losing his way of life in a landscaping business. He believes the only way he can survive and financially take care of his widowed sister and niece is to go work in a factory and be cut off from the wonderful outdoors that he loves. Thankfully, God has more in store for them both. This is a delightful story, that shows us that you don't have to conform to a mold, to be a useful, productive person. My favorite characters are Tough and Knot, a set of mischievous twin boys, Melvin, and Barbara. "Worry over today, for tomorrow comes too quick." "Love never ends, and it bears all things."
