I loved this historical mystery and slow building romance!

Published by Chelsie S on Feb 07, 2026

I really enjoyed this historical mystery! Juliet is just trying to survive another day when she is finally caught poaching on the Russell's land. Fearful of what will happen to her aunt now that she has been found committing this crime, she can hardly believe it when she is granted some grace to explain. After Henry understands why she was doing what she was, he offers her a proposal. After all, she has managed to outwit them for how long, he knows the woods, the land and how to track moving things. In agreement to not poach again, she will help them track down a stalker of his sister, who so far has been able to evade capture. The stalker seems to only amp up with their antics and soon it seems that Juliet is also or target or is she? Is she really who she claims to be, after all she has even more access to the grounds as well as living in the house. But things only continue to get worse and Charity refuses to leave for her safety. When Charity becomes very ill and is found to have been poisoned they know it has to be someone close to them, someone with access to almost everything and yet someone they would never suspect. Will Juliet be able to help Henry find who the true culprit, become the accused, or will his sister succumb to whatever this stalker has in mind to do next? This was a fun mystery, with a slow building romance and it did take me quite a while to figure out who it was. Thank you to the author and Barbour Publishing for the complementary novel. This review is of my own opinion and accord.
