Uncover the Story Behind a One-Hundred-Year-Old Love Letter

Walk through Doors to the Past via a new series of historical stories of romance and adventure.

Clara Blackwell helps her mother manage a struggling one-hundred-year old family bookshop in Asheville, North Carolina, but the discovery of a forgotten letter opens a mystery of a long-lost romance and undiscovered inheritance which could save its future. Forced to step outside of her predictable world, Clara embarks on an adventure with only the name Oliver as a hint of the man’s identity in her great-great-grandmother’s letter. From the nearby grand estate of the Vanderbilts, to a hamlet in Derbyshire, England, Clara seeks to uncover truth about family and love that may lead to her own unexpected romance.

What’s Not To Love About This Book!!

Published by Phyllis Rollan on Sep 01, 2024

What’s not to love about this book! A bookshop, library, and the perfect heroes. Add in a castle of such, Biltmore, where fairytales meet reality… Whew…this has to be one of my favorite Pepper Basham books…I tend to say that every time I read another one but, truly, the heroes in this story were just exceptional. Basham constructs the perfect heroes to fit the dual timelines and circumstances of these stories, intertwining the two timelines to the sweet ending. This is not my favorite audiobook. From a general point of view, it was well done, however, the British accents were not convincing and lacked consistency from one scene to the next. For a reader who listens to a lot of books based in England, this nuance was distracting and hard to ignore. This book is suitable for teens and older with no inappropriate intimate scenes and no bad language.

    Loved!

Published by Karen Visnosky on Jan 25, 2022

This is the first book I have read by Pepper Basham and it will not be the last. One of the obvious reasons I picked up this book is because it is set in North Carolina and more specifically at Biltmore Estates. But I also decided to read it because it has such an intriguing storyline. It is a split time novel. When reading this book, I also discovered to my delight that it is set at Christmas which is the best time to visit Biltmore Estates if you ever get a chance to go. I love how the author wove the two timelines together in this book. I noticed that one character’s name was mentioned in the wrong timeline once. That surprised me in a way because if I tried to write a split time book I feel like I would have done that more by accident. As I read this, I could picture myself in the places that were being described which is partially because I have been able to go to Biltmore Estates at Christmas as well as Biltmore Village. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author. Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book in order to give an honest review.

Dual Timeline Family Saga Filled with Hope, Love, and Bookish Goodness

Published by Valerie S on Apr 02, 2021

Hope Between the Pages by Pepper Basham is a wonderful hope-filled escape to two lovely destinations. The dual timeline novel is primarily set in and around the magnificent Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC, built by George Vanderbilt in the late 1890s. This novel is brimming with bookish goodness as both the historical and contemporary plots feature books, one in the opulent Biltmore library and the other in a historic bookstore. Both stories feature strong women characters who experience hope and love that sustains them through significant challenges. Each features a love story that felt sincere and had me cheering for the couples. Sadie, the primary character in the historical storyline and family matriarch, is so fully fleshed, I had to Google to see if she was based on an actual person (I don’t think she is.) I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.

    A Beautiful Dual-time Story!!!

Published by Anne P on Apr 01, 2021

"God allows us the gift of memories to tide us over to eternity." Oliver and Sadie just became two of my newest literary favorites! Their story is grand and beautifully sad at the same time. My heart wept from the poignancy of a love that lived on beyond the physical. "Keep to your Bible and to your fairy tales, sweet girl. One is for your soul and the other is for your daydreams. Both will help you through this, and in both you'll find your story." Max and Clara are brought together as Clara seeks answers about her bookshop, and in the seeking discovers love. Upon first encounter with Max, his damaged soul burrowed deep and I knew I loved him. Together, they bring hope–and healing–between the pages. "I've given up enough of my life to fear. I don't want to lose anymore." Almost exactly what her mom had said to her. She and Max were more alike that she'd realized. Perhaps that was why they understood each other so well. "And...when you're with someone who sees beyond the scars, then the scars don't seem as large anymore." Neither does the fear. Basham has dipped her proverbial ink pen into dual-time fiction and I must say, not a drop is wasted. Anyone who has read her individual historical and contemporary works knows that passion flows liberally and not just the romantic kind. There is so much I could say about this book but I’ll just say this —Hope Between the Pages is a truly beautiful dual love story that fans will want to put on their keeper shelf! I received an electronic copy of the book for review purposes. No review was required. No compensation received.
