Brunstetter shares Rosa Petersheim's intriguing story in the first book of a new series, and her writing skills have never been more evident. The character development is excellent and the portrayed emotions are spot on! The Protector is set in Mifflin County, Pennsylvania in the Amish community of Belleville so the suggestion that Rosa may have willingly left her Amish community presents an intriguing dilemma. Will this community support the Petersheims or will they be censored? We're reminded that tragedy and loss are universal, surface emotions are often misleading, and none of us can truly understand another person's feelings. Families can be strengthened, or they can be destroyed by stress and grief! This well-written book kept me fully engaged with its romance, mystery, and inspiring message of faith. I recommend The Protector to all who enjoy Amish fiction, and I look forward to the next Mifflin County Mystery! I received a copy of this book from the author and publisher. Wanda Brunstetter has released a new addition to her long list of Amish titles with the start of a new series entitled A Miflin County Mystery, book one being THE PROTECTOR. Norman Petersheim has always looked after his siblings so when his sister Rosa disappeared after a youth gathering with her boyfriend and other Amish friends, he took it upon himself to try to find her. When the authorities declare her disappearance as a cold case, he decides to continue the investigation on his own but with limited resources, he finds nothing to help in his search. Meanwhile, his girlfriend Salina Swarey misses spending time with Norman and longs to be his wife, but his attention has been on finding Rosa and supporting his mother who is suffering with depression since Rosa's disappearance, and helping at his father's store. With so much on his shoulders, Norman puts his relationship with Salina on the back burner. Will Norman lose the woman he loves while looking for his missing sister? Will Rosa ever be found, or is she just gone forever? Mystery novels are always exciting and Wanda Brunstetter gives readers another book they won't want to put down in the quest to find where Rosa is. Will it be a happy or a sad ending? 5 stars, A Brother's Love THE PROTECTOR (MIFFLIN COUNTY MYSTERY BOOK 1) BY Wanda E. Brunstetter This book opens in Belleville, Pennsylvania with the eldest Petersheim girl, Rosa is late. Her older brother Norman becomes concerned, because he has a close relationship with Rosa, since they are close in age. Their family discovers that Rosa is not only late, but she is missing. Their mother has health problems and worrying about Rosa isn't helping her. Their father is unforgiving, saying that he will not welcome Rosa back into the family if she ever comes home. Norman feels torn up inside, because he didn't keep Rosa safe. He looks everywhere for her, even going to the police, but with no picture, the police can't do much. Norman's girlfriend Salina finds that she has been tossed aside, by Norman's obsession with finding Rosa. She doesn't know what to do, since she has a deep love for Norman. No one in their Amish community understands the guilt that Norman feels since Rosa disappeared. This is a trilogy, you can read the book as a stand-alone, but it would be better, if you could read all three of the books. I like the way that the author injects Pennsylvania Dutch words into her books and in the next sentence will it will tell you what that word means. Her books are almost like they are teaching you bits of a different language, different to me, anyways. I like learning about the Amish, a lot of them seem like really nice people. The author writes clean, wholesome Christian or inspirational books, but she doesn't have her characters come across as pushy in regards to religion, they are simply delightful books. I think it's adorable that Tena calls a rabbit Bun-Bun, that is our family name for rabbits as well. Highly recommended. Another wonderful book by wanda, Norman is the oldest son and brother to 3 sister and a younger brother, after His sister Rosa dissapeared to worked non -stop to locate her, again protecting his family.His intense earch for his sister did however effect his relationship with his girlfriend salina, He showed compassion for everyone, never giving up his search for his sister, in the end, His beloved Salina was supportive in finding his sister, even a wedding resulted in the romance/mystery.a wonderful book.
