God Loves Insecure People

Adapted from A Better Day Is Coming by Glenn Hascall

God Loves Insecure People

When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.”
Judges 6:12 NIV

Gideon had a close encounter with one of God’s messenger angels. He heard the words, “The Lord is with you,” and the term “mighty warrior” applied to him, but the angel must have been confused. Gideon had been hiding from the Midianites to keep them from stealing his wheat. What kind of warrior does that?

But God wanted to use Gideon to conquer the enemy. The Lord said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?”

Gideon was insecure. He didn’t think of himself as strong, and he had no idea how to save the people of Israel. In his trepidation he asked, “Pardon me, my lord, but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.” God wanted to use him, and Gideon threw himself a pity party. He claimed to be the least important person from the weakest clan.

When God finally got Gideon ready for battle, He stretched his security even further. God made him send home nearly thirty-two thousand soldiers who came out to fight the Midianites. Only three hundred soldiers remained. God led Gideon to a very unique and total victory. Stop—this is important: God loves insecure people. He uses insecure people. He makes insecure people. . .secure.

Your day becomes better when you’re certain that the God who fashioned you can also take care of you. He can make you secure.
