Mysterious Events Plague a Greenhouse in Pennsylvania’s Amish Country

When Vernon King, his son, and son-in-law are involved in a terrible accident, three women are left to cope with their deaths, as they become the sole providers of the family they have left. The women’s only income must come from the family greenhouse, but someone seems to be trying to force them out of business.

Amy King has just lost her father and brother, and her mother needs her to help run the family’s greenhouse. It doesn’t seem fair to ask her to leave a job she loves, when there is still a sister and brother to help. But Sylvia is also grieving for her husband while left to raise three children, and Henry, just out of school, is saddled with all the jobs his father and older brother used to do. As Amy assumes her new role, she also asks Jared Riehl to put their courtship on hold. When things become even more stressful at the greenhouse, will Amy crumble under the pressure?

    Great start to the series!

Published by Lisa on Jan 31st 2020

After a tragic family loss, the King family is struggling to keep their greenhouse business afloat while each person is internally trying to cope with such devastating events. Things take a turn for the worse when vandalism starts to occur at the greenhouse, threatening to further tear apart the family. Who is responsible for the vandalism? There are a few different possibilities in terms of characters.
I've been reading Wanda's books for well over a decade. It's been awhile since she wrote a mystery series so I was really looking forward to this book! I was not disappointed at all. Wanda takes the time to really develop the characters, their thoughts and you can see how each person reacts to losing multiple family members. The emotional recovery is really depicted as a process much like real life. I enjoyed reading about the reappearance of several beloved characters from The Hope Jar series, including Ezekiel, Michelle, Mary Ruth and Sara along with knowing more about how their stories continued. I also found the side stories of courtship and the Amish-English encounters to be engaging alongside the main storyline. I am anxiously anticipating the sequel to this first installment!
