Beloved, bestselling author of Amish fiction, Wanda E. Brunstetter takes readers on a journey in 1850 along the California Trail.
Only the brave—or foolhardy—would attempt a cross-country journey late in the season. Three wagons meet up in Independence, Missouri, in April 1850, and their owners decide to keep forging ahead despite many setbacks and delays. December finds them in the Sierra Nevada Mountains when a sudden snowstorm traps them, obscuring the trail.
Cynthia Cooper is traveling with her mother and the man she has promised to marry. But as Christmas is upon them and they are hunkered down in a small cabin, she is forced to reevaluate her reasons for planning to marry fellow-traveler Walter Prentice. When a widowed father heading to a California ranch and a gold prospector both show an interest in Cynthia, she weighs her dreams for marriage alongside her responsibility to care for her mother. Can love win over her timid heart?

Published by Beverly Duell-Moore on Nov 01, 2021

Cynthia Cooper, her mother, and several other people( including two children) are on their way to California. They missed the bigger wagon train and decided to travel alone. Walter, Cynthia’s future husband is great with business matters. But, when it comes to love matters he’s clueless. He’s selfish and thinks only of himself. After weeks of travel they find themselves stranded in the Sierra Nevada Mountains during a blizzard. The people question themselves and each other about their survival. They are very low on food of any kind. The only shelter they have are inside the wagons. They aren’t much of any kind of protection from the weather. One of the men hunting for food finds an abandoned cabin. They decide that if they are hong to survive they have to use it. At least it’ll keep them out of the elements. They decided to stay there until the weather improves and they can move on. How do they survive? Do Cynthia and Walter marry? What happens while they are hunkered in the cabin? Does anyone else come by to use the cabin?

A Quick Pick Me Up Reminder of Enduring Faith

Published by OhioMom on Oct 28, 2020

Wanda Brunstetter’s new novella, A Christmas Prayer, is a story of enduring faith in the face of trials and hardship. A group of strangers find themselves journeying together across the country in 1800’s America, starting in New York, and heading to California – all in search of better lives. You’ll find someone to connect with as the story unfolds around you. From the young lady planning a wedding, to the brother and sister seeking new endeavors, and the single father, hoping for a fresh start for his young family. I love History, and I especially liked the way Ms. Brunstetter peppered this story with so many details – like me, you will feel like you’re actually part of this wagon train, while safe and sound in your favorite reading spot! Those on this trip face trials they never expected, and everyone is tested as they wonder if they will ever reach their destination. They started out strangers, but friendships develop and love grows where it is least expected. This is a nice quick read that will leave you feeling happy and refreshed. I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
