Oksana is a historical romantic suspense in the best definition of the genre. It takes place in Russia during the Revolution of 1917.Anton Klassen is a German Mennonite living in Russia. Because people of his faith are pacifists, he doesn't think the revolution will touch him, but that is changed by a chance encounter in the forest with a very important Russian.
Oksana is a servant in the Tzar's household. Through machinations of the Tzarina, she and another maid escape from the palace before the Tzar abdicates and the royal family are taken captive. However, she hides a secret that she can't tell anyone, especially the peasant who is her protector.
As they try to keep a low profile, they are aided by a monk named Timofea, brother to the other maid, Yulia. Many people are trying to find them, so they must move about the country to escape detection.
This story is a wonderful final chapter to the Heirs of Anton series. Masterfully written, this book will keep the reader's interest as well as teach about Russian history. The romance has so many roadblocks and real conflicts, but it unfolds with a delicate sweetness that is hard to find today. I gladly give this book my highest recommendation.
