Susn Choy Lee's Review of the Brides of Lancaster County SeriesA Merry Heart by Wanda E. Brunstetter is book one in the Brides of Lancaster County series. If you enjoy reading about the Amish and their lifestyle, then consider reading this entire series. I love the descriptions of food (great desserts!) in all these stories. Makes me hungry…! This one focuses on Miriam Stolzfus, the “old maid” schoolteacher who learns that a merry heart doeth good like medicine as it says in Proverbs. Don’t forget to try out the yummy recipe for chunky chocolate peanut butter cookies at the back of the book! Anybody want to make some for me?!?
Looking For A Miracle is book two in the Brides of Lancaster County series and this one focuses on the life of Rebekah Stoltzfus, niece of Miriam Stolzfus in book one. Rebekah may have legs that are paralyzed, but she learns that a wheelchair will not hinder her from finding love, too, like her cousin Mary Ellen. After reading this story, you’ll have to try out the recipe for homemade root beer at the back of the book. Tell me what you think!
Plain & Fancy is book three in this series. Laura Meade grew up modern and then meets Eli Yoder (son of Mary Ellen Yoder who’s the niece of Miriam Stolzfus!), one of the Plain People. Find out yourself if their love can last without Eli getting shunned. If you’re a fan of pickled beets, then you’ll be happy to know there’s a recipe for it at the end of this one!
