Extra, extra! Read all about it! Four young ladies deal with romance, danger and a gruff editor in 19th-century California! Extra!

It's October 1859: San Francisco's newspapermen are on strike, and a fire leaves three women homeless. So a society columnist persuades her boss to hire her newfound friends, even though blustery Russell Madison believes that journalism really is no job for ladies.

Golden Gate Gazette follows Amy Lattimer, Jennie Montgomery, Helen Morgan and Penney Brice over the next year as they handle challenges to their hearts, souls and even lives. Co-authors Carol Cox, DiAnn Mills, Darlene Mindrup, and Kathleen Y'Barbo - Southwesterners all, with Mills and Y'Barbo hailing from Texas - provide their characters with piety and aplomb aplenty.

Despite its 340-plus pages, Golden Gate Gazette is actually a bit short, with the individual tales tending to end abruptly. But it has the makings of a nice little TV movie, especially for those who like their love stories more spiritual and less steamy.
