Present day, Ohio, PennsylvaniaAbby Miller has a successful quilt shop, is engaged to a wonderful man, her mother is happily remarried to Abraham Fisher. Her mother has written to her, asking if Abby can come to help out with the baby, just until her mother is strong enough to everything on her own.
Abby agrees to help out, after all this is her mother. She leaves her quilt shop in the capable hands of Lena and her future husband, Lester. All the while, though, Abby has this sense of something bad is going to happen, but what could it be? And to whom will it happen to?
Linda Scott adores her adopted son, Jimmy, she is however a little over protective of him. While she has turned her life over to Christ, her husband Jim, has not. Jim is overwhelmed with a deep secret regarding their son. His guilt is causing some trouble in their marriage.
As the story unfolds, Abby is very busy, helping her mother, helping Naomi, Abraham’s eldest child from his first marriage. When tragedy strikes, Abby is heartbroken, she throws herself into work, she over does it. Matthew, Naomi’s brother has strong feelings for Abby. Abby on the other hand, just sees him as a big brother. Can Abby overcome her grief long enough to see she is loved by someone right in front of her?
I enjoyed this book as much as I did the first book, The Storekeepers Daughter. Wanda E. Brunstetter knows her Amish history. Bravo to Ms. Brunstetter for another well-written novel. The next book in this series, The Bishop’s Daughter, will be available in the fall of 2006.
