(November 19, 2007, Uhrichsville, Ohio) Barbour Publishing CEO Timothy Martins announced today that George Kourkounakis has been promoted to the position of President and Chief Operating Officer, effective January 1, 2008. Martins, who has served as Barbour's President since 1996, will remain active with the company, continuing in the chief executive role. Kourkounakis, a ten-year veteran of Barbour Publishing, has served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for most of that time.
"I am very excited about the opportunity to serve Barbour as President," Kourkounakis said. "2007 has been an incredible year for the company, and our new product releases for 2008 promise another terrific ride. It will be a pleasure to guide our talented and experienced staff at this time in our company’s history."
Martins also announced two other executive level promotions today: Mary Burns to the position of Vice President of Publishing, and David Applin to the position of Vice President of Purchasing and Distribution, both effective January 1.
Burns, who joined Barbour in 1994, has served as Vice President of Marketing in recent years. With this promotion, she will now add executive-level responsibility for Barbour's editorial department. Burns said, "It will be energizing to lead both our marketing and editorial teams in the development and launch of new products that are relevant in today's changing marketplace. I think this new alignment will help the company focus its publishing strategy and will strengthen relationships with authors."
Applin, who has served 14 years with the company, will expand his current purchasing role to include the distribution side of the business, taking on executive‐level responsibility for all warehousing and fulfillment functions. "Barbour's state-of-the-art distribution facility has been designed with customers in mind," said Applin. "I am excited about the opportunity to lead a great team, already dedicated to top-shelf customer
service levels, in reaching even higher."
"We are blessed to have such a highly competent executive team at Barbour, with over 60 years combined experience," said Martins. "I am thrilled with the potential for Barbour's continued growth under George's leadership. Our staff, customers, and authors will all be served well by his passion for and commitment to fulfilling our mission 'to publish and distribute inspirational products offering exceptional value and biblical encouragement to the masses.'"
