Barbour Launches New Texas Legacy Series
DiAnn Mills Takes Readers Inside the Rough-and-Tumble Old West

Uhrichsville, OH—From Jesse James to Butch Cassidy to Billy the Kid, the Old West is infamous for the gangs of outlaws that rode throughout the region robbing stagecoaches, stealing from banks, engaging in deadly gun battles, and placing fear in the hearts of law-abiding citizens.

Award-winning author DiAnn Mills takes readers inside the life of the rough-and-tumble Old West in Leather and Lace, (Barbour Publishing, January 2006), the first release in her new Texas Legacy series.

Casey O’Hare wanted out. Weary of her tumultuous life with the cruel Davis Jenkins and his gang of outlaws, including her brother, Tim, Casey slips away during a storm, determined to start a new life. But life on the run from a gang of outlaws is anything but easy—especially when you’re also running from the law that’s after you for crimes you didn’t commit.

One night sitting before a campfire, she finds herself staring down the barrel of a Winchester .44, held by a mysterious stranger named Morgan Andrews, who warns her that Jenkins and his gang are on her trail. For reasons unknown to Casey, Morgan is after Jenkins, and he’s determined to kill him. But as Casey and Morgan attempt to escape Jenkins and the gang that corner them, Morgan is critically wounded.

Determined to find help for Morgan, Casey risks her own life to take him to a doctor she knows in Vernal, Utah. While there, she finds her feelings for Morgan growing, but she pushes them aside, knowing she must focus on staying alive by getting far away from Jenkins. Leaving Morgan behind, and with her heart in knots, Casey flees Vernal and winds up in Deer Creek, a small town in West Texas. Living under the name Shawne Flanagan, she assists a kind, elderly couple in running the mercantile—but her cover is blown when two outlaws attempt to rob the store and recognize her.

Leaving behind her new friends, Casey runs again, this time to Kahlerville, Texas, where she gets a job as a nurse for the preacher’s ailing wife. As she comes to understand who Jesus is and her need for forgiveness, Casey discovers a new purpose in life. But her newly discovered peace is threatened when Morgan, whose family lives in Kahlerville, shows up, sending her emotions into overdrive.

As she and Morgan sort through their feelings for one another, Casey becomes more and more compelled to tell her new friends who she really is. And with help from Morgan, who turns out to be a lawyer, she desires to come clean with the law and face whatever consequences it might bring. But even if her name is cleared, Casey knows that Jenkins is still out there and nothing will stop him from finding her.

DiAnn Mills lives in Houston, Texas, with her husband and is the mother of four grown sons. The award-winning author of fourteen books and nine novellas also writes nonfiction articles and devotions. DiAnn believes her readers should “expect an adventure” when they read her books.
