A search for independence and the desire to protect an innocent child leads a young woman into the clutches of a vile man.On her own for the first time, Emily Ralston enjoys her job as receptionist at the Children’s Building of the Chicago World’s Fair. When a handsome Colombian guardsman delivers an abandoned child to her for safekeeping, Emily’s heart is immediately drawn to both the child and the man. When nobody arrives that evening to pick up the three-year-old named Adam, Emily makes a rash decision.
Colombian Guardsman Stephen Bridger is intrigued with the lovely receptionist at the Children’s Building. He fishes for a reason to meet her again and knows that seeing her just once isn’t enough. Much to his delight, Emily agrees to allow him to come calling. What he discovers at her boardinghouse shocks him. Perhaps Emily isn’t the sweet innocent he thought her to be.
When Adam’s mother fails to show up after several days, tension escalates. Stephen and Emily grow closer, but the danger surrounding them threatens to tear apart their budding relationship. Can they solve the mystery of Adam’s abandonment? Will the truth tear Stephen and Emily apart?
A Bride So Fair is the third book in Carol Cox’s fascinating A Fair to Remember series. This book totally stands alone, but readers of the series will be delighted to revisit quirky Mrs. Purvis at her boardinghouse. Emily is a heroine who will quickly tug at your heart as she struggles to do what’s best for Adam. She’s insecure as a result of growing up in a children’s home and being picked on by a bully, but she is stretching her wings and has moved out of the Home and landed her first job. Readers will love how Emily fights for what she believes in, even when it brings danger to her doorstep. Stephen is a wonderful hero who has completely lost his heart to Emily. Toss in a nasty villain, a persistent but unwanted suitor, and an intriguing setting, and you have a fabulous book that will hold your interest until the very end.
