E. M. BOUNDS (1835-1913) trained as a lawyer before entering the ministry. A Methodist pastor at the time of the Civil War, Bounds became both a federal prisoner of war and a chaplain to Confederate troops. The Missouri native spent his final 17 years writing books on the spiritual life.
